Two years on from a devastating fire, Intratuin Lisse is once again fully operational. Every effort has been made to realise the brand new garden centre project, which boasts a fully immersive customer experience. Its integrated innovative systems and smart technology mean Intratuin Lisse is the most sustainably built garden centre in the Netherlands. Stolze is a proud partner in this extensive new-build project!

Owner Sjaco Griffioen was already well aware that his new business premises required a complete overhaul, but no one was prepared for the devastation caused by fire in February 2021. Having only just moved to the property, the ageing building was completely destroyed. But the entrepreneur didn't just give up. Instead, he took a proactive approach by making immediate plans for a new, state of the art garden centre. Intratuin offered a temporary solution by continuing to run the store at their previous location in Voorschoten. Meanwhile in Lisse, construction of a completely new immersive customer experience started to take shape.

Stolze was already involved in the renovation work planned for the old building. Sjaco Griffioen explains: "Thanks to our previous experiences of working together, we had complete faith in Stolze to successfully deliver on the new-build project. They are specialists when it comes to garden centre design and they are acutely aware of the challenges we face. Stolze were given complete creative freedom and have more than exceeded our expectations."

The new Intratuin Lisse had to provide a complete customer experience. These requirements consisted of an optimal shopping route with enhanced catering services and children's play area, and also included fulfilling logical technical demands. From the start, Stolze were directly involved in all aspects of the design and construction process. This included water and electrical systems, an automated climate system and even the installation of grow lights for the enormous olive tree in the entrance hall. The design reflected every requirement and detail envisioned by the client; electric and water systems installed at logical positions, sleek lighting rows fitted with integrated spotlights, and an audio system. All piping, cables and cable ducts were either supplied in a black finish, or sprayed after delivery, to create a stylishly clean interior.

Incorporating sustainability into the design process was essential. The new building is fully insulated and 457 solar panels have been installed. Two heat pumps are partly powered by this solar energy. The smart, energy efficient Stolze climate system regulates the in-store climate. This system not only monitors and controls the heating, ventilation and shading of the building, but also ensures that use of lighting is fully optimised. It also regulates the internal climate by responding to local weather forecasts.

Intratuin Lisse was built quickly and experienced a phased opening. As a result, some challenging issues were encountered along the way, says Griffioen. "The Stolze team gave 100% every single day and always kept to the schedule." The entrepreneur looks back positively on the project: "Our hopes for an optimal store experience and efficient work processes have been fully realised by Stolze's fantastic technical solutions. The results are incredible and the attention to detail is second to none!"
