Florensis is a well-known name at Stolze. They have been our customer for a long time already. Not only in The Netherlands, but also with their nurseries in Africa. In Ethiopia, Florensis owns 2 nurseries, Florensis Ethiopia and Florensis Abyssinia. At both companies, Stolze supplied the technical installations. The youngest of the two is Florensis Abyssinia, which was founded in 2015 and now comprises about 14 hectares.

Florensis Abyssinia, which is built in several phases, grew by another 4 hectares in 2018. And there is still room for expansion in the future. We have been the supplier of technical installations from the start and for this phase we also provided the irrigation installation, electrical installation and Priva automation.

In the nursery the main crop is Pelargonium mums. A wide corridor, in the middle of the nursery, divides the several departments. The corridor ensures that the hygiene in the nursery can be guaranteed. The new departments are also attached to this corridor.

The nursery is equipped with a drip irrigation system. The drippers are installed low and close to the pots. The plants are pruned regularly and in order to prevent damages to the system, the installation is designed in this particular way. Florensis Abyssinia works with a day supply system with 5 recipes. By hand taps, a choice between the 5 recipes can be made.

Tsehay is responsable for the irrigation on site.

Florensis is a leading breeder and supplier in starting material of several plants and cut flowers. The nursery in Abyssinia is also progressive and this reflects in the high quality installations and the way of working. The drain water is being re-used and the water tanks are sealed to prevent pollution and evaporation. To some countries, reusing drain water is not a special activity but in Ethiopia this is not a matter of course.Florensis does more than ensuring a sustainable production. The company also takes its social responsibility seriously. Through various projects, Florensis contributes to the social development of their employees and local residents. During high season, around 800 people are employed at Florensis Abyssinia. The employees are being educated and can participate in a micro-finance project, where interest-free loans can be obtained for homes, land etc. The Flower Child Foundation (founded by Florensis), takes care of orphans from the neighborhood and contributes to the construction of schools in both Ethiopia and Kenya.
